Catchers Glove - Break-In

Breaking in a catcher's glove is no joke. It takes time, patience and an understanding that this glove means the world to you. Our goal is to deliver is back and let you take it the distance for the next 5 years. The increase in cost is based purely off time committed to the break-in. 

TYPICAL PROCESS (may vary based on manufacturer)
- Hinge glove accordingly using pneumatic press;
- Develop pocket using Hack Attack pitching machine;
- Work glove by hand to stretch laces and break down leather;
- Return to pneumatic press for more passes;
- Repeat

WE DO NOT
Use any of the following items with your glove. We've found our process to be incredibly effective with no potential damage to your glove. We literally use a leather baseball and elbow grease. Some of the items below can damage leather, create brittle laces, discolor the glove and shorten the life expectancy of the leather. These processes may work, but we prefer to preserve the glove to the best of our ability. 
- Water
- Steamers
- Glove oils or conditioners
- Foam 
- Microwaves, ovens, car tires, bed mattresses, etc.

ONCE YOU RECEIVE YOUR GLOVE BACK
Note that leather will stiffen up a little bit during the return shipping process. This also happens in between games, when left in the car, etc. When you receive your glove, work the pinky and pointer fingers back and forth by hand to break down that leather.

To continue the break in process, we strongly suggest:
-  Work the pinky and pointer fingers back and forth by hand to continue breaking down that leather;
- Continue working in the pocket by receiving off a pitching machine, catching bullpens or simply playing catch;
- Tighten top of pocket laces as they continue to loosen and stretch (if you'd like). This will help keep baseballs / softballs in the pocket;
- Repeat

We'll work in the glove to what we consider "practice ready" or "85%". The process to make the glove "game ready" is up to you. Each player prefers the finished product a bit different, so we'll include a care card with your delivery to provide some tips and tricks.
